Paintings by Jessica Simorte and Max Manning
This exhibition will place concepts of scale at the forefront of discursive importance. Both artists use abstract painting as a framework in which they investigate ideas of intimacy in contemporary human experience. Reacting to the environments they respectively inhabit, each artist chooses a scale that is modest and poetic. Color relationships and flatness of form play an important role in both artist’s work. Viewers will be all but forced to investigate each work’s visual scenario in close proximity. Intimates will challenge traditions of abstract painting’s historical conventions and prioritize notions of the human element in a work of art.
